As a Five element acupuncturist I tend to practice a light style of needling that is closer to the Japanese style than the Chinese. I studied at one of the oldest acupuncture colleges in Europe, under some of the most respected practitioners in the country. I use the five elements to help me interpret diagnostically the vibrations of energy observed in a patient. The heritage of the tradition precedes the Chinese style of acupuncture taught in most UK colleges today (TCM), which is a Westernised version that focuses on the physical aspects of qi. My style tends to focus on the aspects of mind that creates blockages in the flow of qi, which then goes on to cause physical symptoms.
